# Nothing OS 5.0 software release and rollout schedule

Following reports that Nothing was preparing a major update to its operating system, the company officially unveiled Nothing OS 5.0. Based on Android 17, the update introduces over 80 new features centered on design, performance, and artificial intelligence.

Visual enhancements include a redesigned user interface, the introduction of Geist typography, and an adaptive color scheme that allows icons and widgets to match user wallpapers. Other updates involve transparent widgets, a new home screen style, and redesigned elements for the status bar, Settings, Camera, and Gallery applications. 

A public Open Beta phase has begun for the Nothing Phone (3), with a progressive rollout planned for the company’s other devices.

Nothing has since announced a rollout schedule for the stable release, which is expected to begin in mid-October starting with the flagship Nothing Phone (3). The Nothing Phone (4a) series and Pro versions of the 4a and 3a lines are scheduled for early November, followed by the Nothing Phone (2a) and (2a) Plus in mid-November. The (3a) Lite is slated for late December, with the rollout concluding in mid-January 2027 for the Nothing Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro.

Additionally, developers have confirmed that work has begun on Nothing OS 5.1, which is expected to include features such as the ability to remap the Essential Key. Long-term development for Nothing OS 6.0 is also underway, with the company planning to use user feedback to prioritize features for next year’s major update.
