Investigators report that the criminal organization removed legitimate property managers and replaced them with associates to impose illegal monthly fees for services like water, gas, and internet. These extortion charges, totaling approximately R$ 70 per apartment, reportedly generated between R$ 85,000 and R$ 100,000 in monthly revenue. Residents who refused to pay faced threats of violence and expulsion. Authorities have identified Gilson Ingrácio de Souza Junior, known as ‘Juninho Varão’, as the alleged leader, while military police officer Carlos Luiz Torres Corrêa, known as ‘Carlão’, is under investigation for his alleged role in threatening residents. Police operations involving search and seizure warrants recovered documents detailing the illegal collections.
