Recent archaeological developments in Sardinia highlight significant findings and cultural preservation related to the Nuragic civilization.

Archaeologists uncovered a well-preserved Bronze Age funerary monument near Macomer, known as a ‘Giants’ Tomb’. Located at the Crastu Littu site, the structure features a rare two-level collective burial chamber and a semicircular entrance exedra. The discovery, which includes ceramic fragments, provides new insights into ancient Sardinian funerary practices and architecture.

In a separate development regarding ancient heritage, the 27 stone statues known as the Giants of Cabras have been reunited at the Marongiu Museum in Cabras. These Iron Age anthropomorphic figures, discovered at Monte Prama, are among the oldest large-scale stone human figures in the Western Mediterranean. The reunification aims to prevent the dispersal of the collection and is expected to support cultural tourism in the Sinis natural park area.

Further discoveries continue to emerge in the Nuoro province. Near Bortigali, in the Carrarzu Iddia archaeological area, researchers identified a Nuragic-era ‘grave of the giants’ that had been obscured by dense vegetation. Found during restoration work on a nearby Nuraghe, the structure is built from large trachyte volcanic rock blocks and features a burial chamber and a monumental semi-circular forecourt.

Similar to the Macomer find, this site possesses a rare architectural design where the entrance area is divided into two levels. Despite evidence of past illegal excavations, recovered ceramic fragments suggest the tomb was utilized during the early phases of the Nuragic culture, dating back to approximately 1800 BC.
