The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) regular season is approaching its conclusion, with several key positions in contention. The Washington Spirit secured a playoff berth following a 1-0 victory over NJ/NY Gotham FC, while the San Diego Wave guaranteed a top-four seed and home hosting rights for the quarterfinals after defeating the North Carolina Courage.

As the league enters its final stages, Gotham FC has extended its lead in the race for the NWSL Shield. Following a 2-1 victory against the Orlando Pride at Inter.co Stadium, Gotham FC moved four points clear of second-place San Diego. Midge Purce opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, and Tierna Davidson added a second to establish a 2-0 lead before Orlando’s Solai Washington scored late. Gotham goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger recorded seven saves during the match.

The win marks Gotham FC’s 17th victory of the 2026 regular season, matching a club record and bringing their total to 58 points. Despite previous injury challenges involving players like Jaedyn Shaw and Rose Lavelle, the club has successfully increased its previous points high of 56.
