Siaya Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga traveled to the United Kingdom for medical assessments and rest following professional medical advice. During his absence, ODM leadership, including Deputy Party Leaders Paul Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, assumed responsibility for the party’s daily operations and preparations for the 2027 General Election. Oginga has since returned to Kenya and is receiving follow-up care at Nairobi Hospital. While party officials and local leaders, such as Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, report that he is in stable condition and recovering well, the Senator’s secretariat indicated he will not be actively involved in political activities for several weeks. On October 6, 2026, the Office of the ODM Party Leader issued a statement to debunk social media reports claiming the Senator had died, labeling the claims as “malicious, unfounded fake news and propaganda.” The secretariat clarified that Oginga is alive, safe, and in good spirits, though he is observing a “forced rest” to limit heavy physical engagements. During a ceremony for the Raila Odinga Mausoleum, Oginga’s son, Jaoko Odinga, confirmed that the Senator is adhering to a strict recovery program ordered by his medical team, which prevents him from attending physically demanding events. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-06: Oburu Oginga's office debunks social media death rumors The ODM Party Leader's office has debunked social media rumors regarding the death of Dr. Oburu Oginga, confirming he is safe and recovering under medical advice. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/oburu-oginga-returns-to-kenya-after-uk-medical-checkup ### 2026-10-03: Oburu Oginga undergoes medical treatment in the UK ODM Party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has traveled to the UK for medical treatment and recovery, leaving party leadership to manage political duties in his absence. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/oburu-oginga-undergoes-medical-treatment-in-the-uk --- Cite as: Oburu Oginga medical treatment and recovery.
