In late July 2026, the Odisha government approved 152 new super-speciality posts and added five specialty departments to its medical colleges. On 5 August 2026, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling led the State Health and Family Welfare Department in signing ten Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to reinforce this expansion. These agreements involve AIIMS Delhi’s Centre for Emergency and Trauma Care for a district-level trauma centre, the All India Institute of Ayurveda for integrating traditional medicine into trauma care, Gujarat’s I-Hub for medical-education innovation, and the Quality Council of India for NABL accreditation of laboratories. Corporate partners including the Adani Group, Tata Steel Foundation, and Kaivalya Education Foundation are also involved in supporting infrastructure and patient services. Mahaling described the signing as “historic,” aiming to reduce patient travel and strengthen clinical services.

On 19 August 2026, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed infrastructure upgrades at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan reported that construction on two blocks of a new hospital building is complete, with an expected inauguration in December and full operations by January. The modernized complex is intended to provide expanded bed capacity, high-capacity clinical blocks, and residential housing for staff, with a Detailed Project Report being drafted to guide subsequent construction phases.
