The offshore wind industry is seeing continued expansion in the development of Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs).

Windward Offshore recently named its third hybrid CSOV, the Windward Munich, in Hamburg. Built by Vard in Vietnam, the vessel utilizes a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system with methanol-ready engines and a battery pack. It is the first of two vessels in its fleet to feature a helicopter landing deck. This delivery follows the Windward Athens, Windward Paris, and Windward Hamburg, marking four CSOV deliveries for the company within a twelve-month period.

In a separate development, Kongsberg Maritime secured a contract with IWS Fleet AS to provide design and integrated technology for four additional CSOVs. These vessels will belong to the Skywalker Class, expanding that series to ten ships total. The newbuilds, to be constructed by Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipment in China, are designed as walk-to-work platforms capable of accommodating up to 120 personnel.
