Sources: 6. Developments: 2. The Oklahoma City Thunder are undergoing a significant roster restructuring ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season. General Manager Sam Presti has overseen the departure of players including Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe, and Aaron Wiggins as part of an effort to reduce the salary cap by over $300 million and “reimagine” the team. To address the loss of approximately 10,000 minutes, the organization has integrated new talent such as rookies Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz, alongside big men like Isaiah Hartenstein to improve shot-blocking and offensive rebounding. The team has also utilized Exhibit 10 deals for players like Zhaire Smith and Christoph Tilly. Despite these changes, Presti remains optimistic about the team’s potential. He emphasized that the core, led by two-time reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams, remains high-level and capable of meeting or exceeding previous performance levels. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: Oklahoma City Thunder prepare for 2026-27 season after roster overhaul The Oklahoma City Thunder prepare for the 2026-27 NBA season following major roster changes, including the departure of Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins and the addition of rookies Aday Mara and Bennett Stirtz. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/oklahoma-city-thunder-prepare-for-2026-27-season-after-roster-overhaul ### 2026-09-24: Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti remains optimistic despite roster changes Thunder GM Sam Presti remains optimistic about the team's future despite major roster departures and salary cap reductions, citing a strong core of young talent and a more competitive NBA landscape. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/oklahoma-city-thunder-gm-sam-presti-remains-optimistic-despite-roster-changes --- Cite as: Oklahoma City Thunder roster restructuring.
