Sources: 48. Developments: 4. Olimpia Milano and Virtus Bologna entered the 2026-2027 EuroLeague season with the objective of reaching the playoffs. Olimpia Milano sought to build on an Italian Supercup victory by transitioning to a more collective roster under head coach Peppe Poeta, while Virtus Bologna underwent a radical rebuild under new coach Alex Mumbrú. Following opening-round losses for both clubs—Milano to Partizan Belgrade and Bologna to Fenerbahce Istanbul—the two teams met in the second round of the regular season for the ‘Derby d’Italia’ at the Unipol Forum in Assago. Olimpia Milano secured its first EuroLeague victory of the season by defeating Virtus Bologna 87-85. The match was decided in the final seconds when Devon Hall hit a decisive two-pointer at the buzzer. Virtus Bologna subsequently secured its first EuroLeague victory of the season by defeating the reigning European champions, Olympiacos Piraeus, 96-94. The game was decided by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Marcus Carr, who recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists. Aliou Diarra also contributed 18 points and 14 rebounds. Following the loss, Olympiacos coach Georgios Bartzokas criticized his team's defensive mindset, stating it felt as though they had arrived for “an exhibition game rather than a competitive match.” Olimpia Milano’s early season struggles continued with an 86-76 loss to Baskonia Vitoria. Despite a third-quarter rally led by Devon Hall’s 12 assists and 17 points from Moses Wright, Milano could not overcome Baskonia’s early lead, marking their second consecutive EuroLeague defeat. ## Claims - Virtus Bologna defeated Olympiacos 96-94 (corroborated by 6 sources) - Maxima Roma defeated U-BT Cluj-Napoca with a final score of 89-55.
