Nice opened the scoring in the 18th minute through Elye Wahi, who converted a cross from Jonathan Clauss. Lyon responded quickly in the first half. Pavel Šulc equalized in the 33rd minute after capitalizing on a goalkeeper error, and Tanner Tessmann secured the lead just three minutes later with a header from a Zachary Athekame cross. Lyon was reduced to ten men in the 70th minute following a straight red card for Keito Nakamura for a dangerous challenge. Despite intense pressure from Nice, who hit the woodwork twice through Axel Witsel and Wahi, Lyon held their lead. A late equalizer by Wahi in stoppage time was disallowed by VAR for offside. With this victory, Lyon moves to the top of the Ligue 1 standings with 14 points, placing them at the top of the table on goal difference ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, Lille, Paris FC, and Monaco. Nice remains in 13th place. Following the match, Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca praised the team’s ‘mental strength and character,’ noting the difficulty of the win given their heavy rotation and recent Europa League commitments. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-17: Olympique Lyonnais defeats Nice 2-1 to lead Ligue 1 Olympique Lyonnais defeated OGC Nice 2-1 to take the lead in Ligue 1, overcoming an early deficit and a late red card to secure three points at Groupama Stadium. 29 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/olympique-lyonnais-rotates-goalkeeper-for-nice-match ### 2026-10-04: Rémy Descamps discusses injury impact on Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper status Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper Rémy Descamps believes a previous injury cost him the starting position at the club, which is currently held by Dominik Greif. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/rmy-descamps-discusses-injury-impact-on-olympique-lyonnais-goalkeeper-status --- Cite as: Olympique Lyonnais victory over OGC Nice.
