Amazon Web Services (AWS) expanded its Amazon Bedrock service by introducing a built-in Web Search tool in general availability. This feature allows supported OpenAI GPT models to retrieve current information from the web using Amazon’s own index and knowledge graph, intended to eliminate the need for third-party search providers or additional security reviews.

Following this, OpenAI expanded its Daybreak initiative, which applies frontier AI models to digital defense. This expansion included the launch of the specialized GPT-5.6-Cyber model and the integration of Daybreak capabilities into Amazon Bedrock. The Daybreak program utilizes two access levels: Daybreak Blue for general defensive tasks like malware analysis, and Daybreak Red for specialized security work such as vulnerability research. Due to the dual-use nature of these tools, access is strictly controlled through an evaluation and approval process.

To further support these capabilities, AWS added support for OpenAI GPT-5.6 models—specifically the Sol, Terra, and Luna versions—to Amazon Bedrock via the bedrock-runtime endpoint. This update introduced Cross-Region Inferencing, allowing users to utilize Global inference profiles for higher throughput and lower costs, or Geo inference profiles, such as US Geo (US CRIS), to ensure data is processed within predefined geographies. These models integrate with existing account-level controls, including model invocation logging to Amazon S3 or CloudWatch, and cost attribution through AWS Cost Explorer.
