The Shanghai Grand Opera House, designed by the Norwegian architecture studio Snøhetta, has opened along the Huangpu River in Shanghai’s Expo Culture Park. The facility spans approximately 147,000 square meters and is intended to serve as both a premier performing arts venue and a public civic destination.

The building features a sculptural design with a white, curved exterior inspired by the movement of an opera dancer or a Chinese fan. Key architectural elements include a monumental spiral outdoor staircase leading to a rooftop terrace that functions as a public observation deck and open-air stage.

Internally, the complex houses three auditoriums with a total capacity of 4,200 seats: the 2,000-seat Harmony Hall, the 1,200-seat Soar Theatre, and a 1,000-seat flexible hall for experimental productions.
