The districts of Talamone and Fonteblanda have pursued a secession movement to separate from the municipality of Orbetello and join Magliano in Toscana. 

Mayor Andrea Casamenti has characterized the signature collection drive for the secession as a “failure,” claiming that fewer than 25% of residents in the two districts signed the petition. The Mayor argued the movement lacks broad support and criticized the economic viability of the proposal, stating the project lacks sufficient data regarding asset valuations and the costs of municipal services. 

The Orbetello administration has formally declared it is ‘absolutely opposed’ to ceding the areas. Public works delegate Roberto Berardi defended the administration against claims of neglect, citing ongoing investments such as the redevelopment of the Costa del Cannone and the development of the Tyrrhenian cycle path.
