Developments: 2. The campaign for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District has centered on engagement and debate participation between incumbent Republican Representative Cliff Bentz and Democratic and Independent challenger Chris Beck. In mid-September, Beck held a town hall in Milton-Freewater to discuss rural economic development policy. This event was noted by local organizers as a rare instance of candidate engagement in the area. In response to criticisms regarding local presence, Bentz’s staff noted that the incumbent had met with city officials earlier in the year to discuss infrastructure and tax changes. By early October, the campaign intensified as Bentz declined four invitations to participate in formal debates hosted by various media and civic organizations. While Beck accepted all invitations, Bentz refused, arguing that debating would provide “desperately needed publicity” for an “unknown candidate” and imply that Beck is a credible challenger. Beck has criticized this refusal as a lack of engagement with voters. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-06: Cliff Bentz declines debates with challenger Chris Beck Republican incumbent Cliff Bentz has declined four debate invitations from his Democratic and Independent challenger, Chris Beck, for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District race. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/cliff-bentz-declines-debates-with-challenger-chris-beck ### 2026-09-15: Chris Beck holds town hall in Milton-Freewater for Oregon CD2 race Democratic candidate Chris Beck held a town hall in Milton-Freewater during his campaign for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District, highlighting a push for direct community engagement in Eastern Oregon. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chris-beck-holds-town-hall-in-milton-freewater-for-oregon-cd2-race --- Cite as: Oregon 2nd Congressional District race.
