Following a difficult season in which the Orix Buffaloes finished in the bottom tier of the Pacific League, manager Mamoru Kishida has been confirmed to remain in his position for a third year. Kishida intends to address performance consistency and player injuries by integrating high-tech equipment and data analysis, specifically requesting investments in hardware like force plates to “visualize” player performance through numerical data.

In conjunction with these management plans, the club announced the release of six players for the upcoming season. These include pitcher Shota Abe, catcher Yuma Tongu, infielder Kazuya Kazuki, and pitchers Takehi Ashida, Kyoichiro Murakami, and Hiroto Suga. While some players intend to continue their careers, Kazuki has expressed an intention to retire, and Tongu—the 2023 batting title winner—is expected to be offered a developmental contract as he rehabilitates from knee surgery. Abe, a former championship contributor, remains undecided on his professional future.

Further organizational changes include the departure of head coach Toshio Haru following the expiration of his contract. Haru, who served for four years in various capacities including development chief coach and second-team manager, noted that injuries to key players contributed to the team’s fourth-place finish. He emphasized the necessity for the organization to investigate the causes of their decline and focus on improving physical conditioning and practice volume to ensure consistent performance. Haru was recognized for providing “affectionate strictness” to help young players navigate technical and mental challenges while serving as a link between the players and manager Kishida.
