In Montenegro, the Saint John Vladimir Cathedral celebrated its tenth anniversary of consecration. The milestone included services led by Metropolitan Joanikije and the presentation of a book documenting the cathedral’s construction history. The period also saw diplomatic religious activity, such as Metropolitan Gavrilo of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church visiting the Cetinje Monastery to emphasize spiritual ties between the Bulgarian and Montenegrin churches. In Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church marked the 1150th anniversary of the birth of Saint John of Rila. The festivities at the Rila Monastery included a visit from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and a festive liturgy with Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel. The event, known as Otchovden, drew thousands of pilgrims and coincided with Bulgarian Doctors' Day, as the saint is regarded as the patron of the medical profession. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates Saint John of Rila's 1150th anniversary The Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates the 1150th anniversary of Saint John of Rila's birth, featuring a visit by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Rila Monastery and marking Bulgarian Doctors' Day. 12 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/rila-monastery-celebrates-feast-day-of-saint-john-of-rila ### 2026-09-25: Orthodox Church marks cathedral anniversary and high-level clerical visits Orthodox religious leaders are marking key milestones, including the 10th anniversary of the Saint John Vladimir Cathedral in Bar and high-level visits between the Montenegrin and Bulgarian churches. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/orthodox-church-marks-cathedral-anniversary-and-high-level-clerical-visits --- Cite as: Orthodox Church religious commemorations and visits.
