Sources: 2. Developments: 2. Eight junior high school athletes from Osaka remain barred from the JOC Junior Olympic Cup U16 Athletics Championships following a registration error by the Osaka Junior High School Physical Education Federation (Osaka Chutairen). The error occurred because a staff member misidentified the entry deadline as September 28 instead of September 24. Although the mistake was discovered minutes before the actual deadline, the registration window had already closed. While the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) previously denied requests for relief to maintain fairness, the Osaka Chutairen has since withdrawn its emergency arbitration request with the Japan Sport Arbitration Agency (JSAA). The federation stated that after discussions with the athletes' parents, they decided to prioritize the “mental and physical well-being of the children” over a prolonged legal battle. In response to the incident, both the JAAF and Osaka Chutairen have pledged to implement measures to prevent similar administrative errors. The JAAF is currently considering alternative responses for the affected athletes, while Osaka Chutairen is exploring options such as organizing substitute competitions. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-16: Osaka student athletes barred from national track meet due to entry error Eight Osaka student-athletes will miss a national track meet after a registration error.
