In early August 2026, eight members of the Korean Progressive University Student Union attempted to breach the main gate of Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. The protesters, consisting of four men and four women, shouted anti-U.S. slogans, including “Destroy the U.S. 7th Air Force that interferes with Honam semiconductors,” while filming the incident. The group’s actions were linked to opposition against a planned semiconductor manufacturing project and general concerns regarding U.S. military facilities.

U.S. Forces Korea personnel apprehended the group and handed them over to South Korean police. Following investigations into violations of the Military Bases and Installations Protection Act, three participants were arrested and referred to the prosecution. Police have continued investigations into the remaining five individuals, who have reportedly exercised their right to remain silent.
