Authorities in Ostuni launched a homicide investigation after the body of 34-year-old Antonio Nisi was discovered near Piazza della Libertà. Preliminary medical examinations identified a gunshot wound, prompting the Carabinieri to search the vicinity and review surveillance footage.

Two days later, police arrested 28-year-old Gabriele Sorada on charges of voluntary homicide and illegal possession of weapons. Investigators determined the shooting followed a dispute regarding an unpaid debt, noting that Sorada had sent a threatening voice message to Nisi’s partner prior to the incident.

During questioning, Sorada claimed he fired the shots ‘to scare him’ rather than to kill. However, medical examinations confirmed a gunshot wound entered through the right armpit and traveled through the chest into the abdomen. Investigators are also examining whether the victim's body was moved from the site of the confrontation to the alley where it was found.
