Regional efforts to support women’s leadership and rights in the Pacific have been highlighted through various initiatives in Tonga and Fiji.

In Tonga, the Tonga Police Women’s Advisory Network (TPWAN) held its 2026 Annual Conference to focus on “Organisational Leadership and Future Proofing the Tonga Police Women’s Advisory Network.” The event aimed to strengthen leadership opportunities for women, who make up nearly 40 per cent of the Tonga Police workforce.

In Fiji, the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) launched its 46th Regional Training Program on Violence Against Women and Girls, Human Rights and Development. This four-week initiative involves participants from 12 Pacific nations to address legal responses, counseling, and the impacts of technology and climate change on women. 

Concurrently, advocacy groups in Fiji, including the Fiji Women’s Rights Movement (FWRM) and DIVA for Equality, raised concerns regarding the reappointment of Pita Wise as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Public Enterprises. Coordinator Shamima Ali has called for transparency regarding whether previous sexual harassment allegations against Mr. Wise were fully investigated by the state prior to this appointment.
