Padang Mayor Fadly Amran has initiated several efforts to bolster the city’s international identity and economic growth through cultural and tourism-based initiatives.

Initially, the Mayor met with a delegation from the Majlis Belia Malaysia to discuss cross-sector cooperation. This dialogue focused on agricultural development and strengthening community-based economies, with an emphasis on establishing Padang as a global gastronomy city by leveraging Minangkabau culinary and cultural heritage.

Building on these efforts, the city has also moved to promote sport tourism, highlighted by the Wali Kota Padang Cup Executive Golf Tournament. The Mayor indicated that integrating sports tourism with the local culinary ecosystem is a strategic component of the city’s goal to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network under the Gastronomy category.
