Pakistan has engaged in a series of high-level diplomatic meetings to strengthen bilateral security, trade, and regional cooperation.

In mid-September, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Lebanese Interior Minister Ahmed Al-Hajjar. The two nations agreed to enhance cooperation regarding counter-terrorism, narcotics, money laundering, and cybercrime. They also signed a memorandum of understanding concerning the transfer of convicted individuals to their home countries. During these talks, Sharif expressed support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and condemned Israeli military actions in the region.

By October, Pakistan hosted further diplomatic visits from the United Kingdom and Bahrain. Discussions with UK Minister of State Stephen Doughty focused on economic growth, regional stability in Afghanistan, and expanding transnational education partnerships.

Following these discussions, the third session of the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Ministerial Commission was co-chaired in Islamabad by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani. The two nations set a target to reach $1 billion in bilateral trade within three years. To support this, they agreed to establish joint working groups on trade, investment, and energy, with the energy group scheduled to discuss oil, gas, and minerals next month.

Further cooperation was discussed regarding food security, information technology, health, education, and labor mobility. Pakistan also sought recognition for professional qualifications for the 140,000 Pakistani citizens residing in Bahrain. Additionally, Bahrain committed to accelerating the approval process for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement. On regional security, both ministers called for safe maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb to protect global supply chains.
