In September 2026, the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad hosted the inaugural Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network Economic Policy Challenge. The event aimed to strengthen bilateral economic ties, with participants addressing issues such as attracting U.S. investment, securing affordable energy, and rationalizing the tax system. Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Andy Halus noted that bilateral trade between the two nations exceeded $10 billion the previous year. Following this, Pakistan prepared to host the ‘International Conference on Inclusive and Resilient Economic Empowerment and Growth’ in Islamabad in mid-October. Organized by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund and the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, the conference sought to explore sustainable solutions to poverty and promote inclusive growth. The initiative comes as United Nations data indicates nearly 29 percent of Pakistan’s population lives below the poverty line. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-10: Pakistan to host international economic empowerment conference Pakistan will host an international economic conference in Islamabad on October 13-14, featuring delegates from 12 countries to discuss poverty alleviation and inclusive economic growth. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/pakistan-to-host-international-economic-empowerment-conference ### 2026-09-10: U.S. Embassy promotes economic ties at Pakistan policy challenge The U.S. Embassy Islamabad hosted an economic policy challenge for the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network to address investment, energy, and tax reforms to bolster bilateral trade. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/us-embassy-promotes-economic-ties-at-pakistan-policy-challenge --- Cite as: Pakistan economic development and poverty alleviation.
