In the Kolone bay near Bale on the Istria coast, an international team of researchers discovered what is described as the world’s first underwater site containing dinosaur bones. These fossils, dating to the Lower Cretaceous period approximately 130 million years ago, belong to a previously unknown species of large, long-necked dinosaur. The remains include cervical vertebrae, lumbar bones, and ribs, some measuring up to four meters in length. Other significant sites in the region include the Fenoliga islet in Slovenia, which preserves approximately 150 dinosaur footprints from the Early Cretaceous period, including sauropod and theropod tracks. Additionally, the Brijuni islands contain over 300 documented footprints.
