Carabinieri officers received honors for their work in ‘Operation Metus’, an anti-mafia investigation that dismantled a Cosa Nostra structure in the San Lorenzo-Tommaso Natale district of Palermo.

Coordinated by the Palermo District Anti-Mafia Directorate, the investigation covered the period from July 2021 to July 2023. It identified how the criminal organization reorganized following the arrest of previous leaders and detailed various illegal activities, including extortion of construction companies, protection rackets in Sferracavallo, and a planned armed assault on an armored cash van.

A ceremony was held at the ‘Giacinto Carini’ barracks to present 17 commendations, primarily awarded by the Commander of the Carabinieri Legion ‘Sicilia’, General Ubaldo Del Monaco, to the Palermo Investigative Nucleus.
