In Palermo, the SRR Palermo 1 agency has issued a formal warning to the Municipality regarding critical failures in waste collection services. President Natale Tubiolo cited operational deficiencies such as ineffective service contracts, uncontrolled waste abandonment, and a lack of progress on new service agreements.

The agency also noted a stalemate concerning the approval of waste regulations, specifically the proposed creation of an environmental inspector role to prevent illegal dumping. These management failures occur despite a recent four-year programming document that increased annual costs by approximately 8 million euros, as determined by the regulatory authority ARERA. Tubiolo warned that these issues could jeopardize the near-term sustainability of the city’s waste management service.
