The Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos studio has unveiled a winning design for the rehabilitation of the Gesa building in Palma. The 76.5 million euro project aims to transform the waterfront into a cultural and innovation hub, covering roughly 30,000 square meters.

Scheduled for completion by the end of 2029, the redevelopment will house the city’s future central library and the Municipal Institute of the Arts. The site is also intended to feature shared workspaces and business incubators as part of the Palma Culture & Innovation Bay project. Architect Antonio Cruz described the design as a “minimal intervention” that seeks to preserve the building’s appearance and heritage elements, such as a 1977 ceramic mural, while expanding local greenery.
