Panama is implementing various sanitation and water infrastructure initiatives. In La Chorrera, authorities have initiated a public bidding process to select a new provider for solid waste collection and disposal, with officials stating the new contract will not increase residential rates.

In Chitré, the Urban and Domestic Sanitation Authority (AAUD) is working to mitigate environmental impacts at the local landfill by constructing six new waste confinement cells and sealing areas previously affected by fires.

Additionally, the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN) has reported progress through the ‘Panamá Sin Fugas’ program, which has completed over 1,000 repairs to drinking water leaks and sanitary interventions since October 2025 to improve supply and reduce waste.
