Panama's free trade zones, particularly the Colon Free Zone, are being positioned as strategic logistics hubs for Vietnamese businesses aiming to access Latin American, Caribbean, and North American markets. 

Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino has emphasized the country's role as a gateway to the Americas, noting that “Vietnam produces goods, while Panama connects to the world market.” To facilitate this connection, the Vietnamese Trade Office in Mexico hosted a conference in Panama City titled “Vietnam - Panama: Export Potential and Business Cooperation Opportunities,” where officials discussed legal and tax incentives available within Panama's 27 free trade zones. 

The Colon Free Zone, which reported a trade turnover of $22.615 billion in 2025, serves as a major transshipment point for goods such as electronics, apparel, and pharmaceuticals moving from Asia and Europe toward the Americas.
