Paraguay’s ‘Hambre Cero en las Escuelas’ (Zero Hunger in Schools) program has transitioned into a permanent state policy. Social Development Minister Tadeo Rojas announced that the initiative is backed by legal and institutional frameworks intended to ensure its continuity across successive government terms, aiming for long-term poverty reduction.

In addition to its social objectives, the program has expanded its economic impact by integrating micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) into its supply chain. Between August 2024 and June 2026, 721 MSMEs were incorporated into the program, with 182 new companies joining in the first half of 2026 alone. These participants generated a combined turnover exceeding G. 74,500 million. The initiative seeks to combine quality school nutrition with the inclusion of national producers and family farming into formal supply chains, with significant participation noted in the departments of Alto Paraná, Central, and Caaguazú.
