The Hospital Nacional de Itauguá in Paraguay has inaugurated a new 1,600-square-meter patient shelter facility. Financed by ITAIPU Binacional in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health, the two-story building provides 35 climate-controlled rooms with a capacity for over 70 people. The facility includes amenities such as a kitchen-dining area, laundry services, and recreational spaces, specifically designed to support patients requiring extended care, such as those in the Nephrology department.

Following the opening, President Santiago Peña and First Lady Leticia Ocampos conducted inspections of healthcare infrastructure, including the National Cancer Institute (Incán). During these visits, the President highlighted improvements to medical supply management through a new sanitary park and announced upcoming bidding processes for expanded oncology facilities. The relocation of patients to the new Itauguá shelter facilitates the demolition of old structures to make way for the construction of a new Gran Hospital Nacional.
