The Partito Democratico (PD) in Catanzaro initiated a process to renew its governing bodies, establishing a schedule for provincial and city-level congresses in late September and October 2026.

Following the local congress, the party experienced internal shifts as election results favored a proposal that differed from the ‘Liberi e Uguali’ motion. The election of the new secretary was influenced by the support of Francesco Pitaro. This outcome has prompted debate regarding the party’s future direction and its relationship with Mayor Nicola Fiorita’s administration, particularly in anticipation of the 2027 municipal elections.
