The 40th anniversary of the influential Argentine rock album ‘Oktubre’ by Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota has been marked by cultural reflections and musical tributes. Originally released in October 1986 during Argentina’s transition to democracy under the presidency of Raúl Alfonsín, the album is noted for its dark, post-punk, and industrial sound. Recorded at Panda Studios in Buenos Aires, the work is recognized for its subversive themes and poetic lyrics that captured the social tension, political unease, and urban paranoia of the era.

This milestone carries significant emotional weight as it is the first anniversary following the death of lead vocalist Carlos ‘Indio’ Solari on June 5. The album’s legacy is defined by its distinctive cover art by Ricardo ‘Rocambole’ Cohen, which referenced the 1917 Russian Revolution, and iconic tracks such as ‘Preso en mi ciudad’, ‘Música para pastillas’, and ‘Jijiji’. Originally produced under precarious conditions with handmade silk-screened packaging, the record has evolved into a cultural phenomenon.

To commemorate the anniversary, the band Rey Garufa y sus Timadores performed a special show at Arena Sur, featuring a complete rendition of the ‘Oktubre’ album alongside other classics from the original band’s repertoire.
