The Patriots for Europe political family scheduled the first ‘Patriots Academy’ in Ericeira, Portugal, for late September 2026. The event was designed to train and harmonize youth delegations from various radical right parties in the European Parliament, including Fidesz, FPÖ, Lega, Rassemblement National, Vox, Vlaams Belang, and Portugal’s Chega. The academy aimed to align political strategies and discuss the future of the European Union.

During the meeting, protests erupted in Ericeira as hundreds of demonstrators gathered near the Vila Galé Ericeira hotel to oppose the gathering. Protesters used slogans such as ‘na Ericeira não há espaço para o ódio’ (in Ericeira there is no room for hate) to denounce what they described as divisive discourse. While Chega leader André Ventura downplayed the demonstrations, the Ericeira Parish Assembly issued a formal vote of condemnation regarding the hosting of the academy in the town.
