The Szépművészeti Museum in Budapest launched a major exhibition titled “Bonjour Monsieur Gauguin: The Circles of Post-Impressionists and Symbolists.” The showcase features 150 masterpieces, including 80 works by the French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Gauguin.

This event represents the first large-scale Gauguin retrospective in Central and Eastern Europe. The collection consists of 32 works from the museum’s own holdings, such as the painting “Black Pigs,” and pieces loaned by approximately 40 international institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Musée d’Orsay, Van Gogh Museum, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.

Curated by Judit Geskó, the exhibition explores Gauguin’s life, artistic journey, and his connections to influential contemporaries. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open to the public until February 28, 2027.
