Sources: 4. Developments: 2. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has leveled several criticisms against the club following a difficult start to the season. Initially, Scholes targeted individual players and staff. He criticized captain Bruno Fernandes for his conduct after a poor performance, suggesting it would be “best to keep your mouth shut!”. He also condemned defender Luke Shaw for making public remarks regarding the team’s lack of preparation, noting such comments undermine manager Michael Carrick and his coaching staff. As the season progressed, Scholes shifted his focus toward the club’s broader recruitment strategy. He argued that Manchester United is “a million miles away” from winning the Premier League because the club prioritizes physical presence over technical quality in its acquisitions. He specifically cited summer signings Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba as examples of players who have not elevated the squad’s performance. Following these challenges, the club sits 12th in the Premier League table. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-21: Paul Scholes criticizes Manchester United recruitment strategy Paul Scholes criticizes Manchester United’s recruitment, stating recent signings like Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba fail to make the club title contenders. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/paul-scholes-criticizes-manchester-united-recruitment-strategy ### 2026-08-26: Paul Scholes criticizes Manchester United players and staff Paul Scholes criticized Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw, suggesting Fernandes should stay silent after poor performances and accusing Shaw of undermining manager Michael Carrick. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/paul-scholes-criticizes-manchester-united-players-and-staff --- Cite as: Paul Scholes criticism of Manchester United.
