In his announcement, Rodríguez stated, “I feel that now is the moment. The moment to take a step forward and start a new chapter in my life.” Rodríguez’s career included playing for FC Barcelona, Chelsea, AS Roma, and Lazio, as well as the Spanish national team. His achievements include winning approximately 25 major trophies, including three Champions League titles and five La Liga titles during his time at Barcelona, as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012 with Spain. To honor his career, FC Barcelona held a special tribute event at the Auditori 1899 and a ceremonial kick-off at Spotify Camp Nou prior to a match against Getafe. During the farewell, Rodríguez reflected on his journey, noting it was the “ideal moment” to step aside as he no longer felt mentally or physically prepared to compete at the highest level. He expressed deep gratitude to former teammates, coaches, and fans, specifically describing Pep Guardiola as a mentor who acted “like a father” during his early years at Barcelona. While expressing affection for the fans during his tenure at Lazio, Rodríguez noted a slight regret at not winning a trophy in Italy. He intends to focus on his family and friends as he begins this new chapter. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Pedro Rodríguez honored by Barcelona following retirement announcement Football legend Pedro Rodríguez has retired, receiving a heartfelt tribute from FC Barcelona fans at Spotify Camp Nou following a decorated career including multiple Champions League and World Cup titles. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/pedro-rodrguez-announces-retirement-from-professional-football-2 ### 2026-10-07: Pedro Rodríguez announces retirement from professional football Spanish football icon Pedro Rodríguez has announced his retirement at age 39, concluding a highly decorated career that included a World Cup title and numerous trophies with Barcelona and Chelsea. 50 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/pedro-rodrguez-announces-retirement-from-professional-football --- Cite as: Pedro Rodríguez retirement from professional football.
