A man identified as Damião Alves dos Santos, also known as “Binha,” was arrested in the rural area of Igreja Nova, Alagoas, following the fatal stabbing of 39-year-old Edneide Oliveira in Penedo. According to police reports, the suspect confessed to the crime and surrendered a knife, claiming he had intended to target the victim’s son-in-law but that Oliveira had stepped in front of the blow instead.

Following his arrest, Judge Lucas Lopes Dória of the 4th Criminal Court of Penedo ordered the provisional release of dos Santos. The judge ruled that while the arrest was legal, there were insufficient grounds to maintain preventive detention. Dos Santos is required to comply with several judicial conditions, including monthly appearances at the forum and a prohibition on leaving the municipality without authorization, to remain free during the investigation.
