The Olomouc Region has reached a significant milestone in its largest planned transportation infrastructure investment with the issuance of a zoning decision for the first stage of the Přerov southwest bypass.

The project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve vehicle flow between northern and southern Moravia, is expected to cost between 600 and 700 million CZK for its initial phase. Planned construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2028 or 2029 and is projected to last two to three years.

Key components of the first stage include the reconstruction of Tovární Street, the construction of two new roundabouts on the I/55 road, and connections to industrial areas. Following discussions between regional and city leadership, the project will also include the expansion of the Mádrův underpass beneath the railway tracks to improve access for pedestrians and road traffic. Once the zoning decision is legally finalized, experts will proceed with the documentation required for a building permit.
