Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (NRE) is engaging in various renewable energy and infrastructure projects across Indonesia.

In Kepulauan Riau, the provincial government and Pertamina NRE are discussing the development of a solar power plant on Pulau Sembur in Batam to replace existing fuel-based power. The project involves coordinating technical requirements, licensing, and land rights, with local officials emphasizing the need for community benefits and employment opportunities.

In North Sumatra, Pertamina NRE has expanded its renewable energy footprint through the ‘Sekolah Energi Berdikari’ (SEB) program and industrial support. In Simalungun, the SEB program provided SDN 091686 Gunung Bayu with a 2.8 kWp solar power plant, a 5 kWh battery, a borehole well, and renovated sanitation facilities. This initiative addresses a 15-year lack of reliable water and electricity for 85 students and 15 teachers, with projected annual electricity savings of approximately Rp5.182 million and an emission reduction of 3,192 kg CO2e.

Furthermore, Pertamina NRE is supporting the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK) through biogas and solar power. A biogas plant (PLTBg) utilizes palm oil mill effluent (POME) from PT Perkebunan Nusantara III to produce methane gas, generating approximately 44,000 kWh daily. The combined output of these biogas and solar facilities provides about 7.4 MW, meeting roughly 10 percent of the zone’s 74 MW total electricity requirement.
