In one documented case, a worker misidentified protected European hornets as invasive Asian hornets, illegally destroyed the nest, and issued a four-digit invoice demanding immediate payment.

Reports of these scams have extended beyond Karlsruhe. In Aachen, police confirmed eight cases of suspected usury have been reported since the beginning of the year. In one instance, a senior citizen reportedly paid 1,400 euros for nest removal to a provider whose listed Munich business address did not exist.
