In Germany, pet naming trends for 2026 show that Luna and Nala are the leading names for female dogs, while Balu remains a consistent favorite for males. Data from Lassie pet liability insurance indicates shifts in popularity, such as Milo rising to third place and Lotti moving from 25th to 12th position. Other common names in the top ten include Bella, Buddy, Bruno, Loki, Mila, and Emma.

Naming preferences also appear to correlate with specific breeds, with Teddy being a popular choice for toy poodles and Rocky frequently used for Chihuahuas. Experts note that short, two-syllable names with clear vowels are often most effective for canine recognition.
