Comedian Pete Davidson criticized high-earning social media influencers in an interview with Variety, specifically targeting creators who earn significant income from content such as TikTok dances. Davidson expressed frustration with those making approximately $40 million annually for what he described as doing ‘nothing,’ remarking that ‘the world’s broken.’

Content creator Sophie Rain, who reportedly earns $45 million per year, responded to these comments. Rain defended the profession, stating that Davidson does not understand the complexities of the business. She detailed the labor involved, including content filming, photography, editing, post planning, fan communication, analytics, and team coordination. Rain also noted her previous experience working as a server for three and a half years before transitioning to content creation, characterizing Davidson’s remarks as ‘out of touch.’
