The Philadelphia Eagles have elevated veteran tight end Zach Ertz to the active roster for their Week 3 matchup against the Chicago Bears. This move follows Ertz’s initial signing to the practice squad to address a depleted depth chart caused by injuries to starter Dallas Goedert, rookie Eli Stowers, and Grant Calcaterra.

Goedert is expected to miss multiple games after suffering a sprained MCL during the team’s Week 2 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Ertz, who previously played nine seasons for the Eagles from 2013 to 2021 and helped the franchise win Super Bowl LII, returns to the team following stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Commanders, as well as recovery from a significant knee injury involving a torn ACL and LCL.

Head coach Nick Sirianni previously noted that Ertz’s availability for the upcoming game was uncertain, pending evaluation through practice repetitions. The elevation of the 35-year-old Pro Bowler is intended to provide experienced pass-catching support for quarterback Jalen Hurts as the team prepares for Monday Night Football.
