In mid-September, Wheeler led the Phillies to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Washington Nationals, a win that helped the team maintain its second-place position in the National League Wild Card standings. Despite the victory, the team faced ongoing questions regarding bullpen reliability and offensive consistency. By late September, Wheeler reached a major career milestone by recording his 2,000th career strikeout during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. During that same appearance, he set a new Phillies franchise record by striking out seven consecutive batters to begin a game. Following a recovery from surgery in late 2025, Wheeler has maintained a 13-5 record with a 2.99 ERA through 26 starts in the 2026 season. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-22: Zack Wheeler reaches 2,000 career strikeouts and Phillies record Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler became the 96th player in MLB history to reach 2,000 career strikeouts and set a franchise record with seven consecutive strikeouts to start a game. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/zack-wheeler-reaches-2000-career-strikeouts-and-phillies-record ### 2026-09-15: Philadelphia Phillies secure shutout win over Nationals Led by Zack Wheeler's seven shutout innings, the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Washington Nationals 3-0, maintaining their position in the NL Wild Card race with ten games left in the season. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/philadelphia-phillies-face-washington-nationals-at-nationals-park --- Cite as: Philadelphia Phillies and Zack Wheeler performance.
