The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) lifted a suspension on public utility vehicle (PUV) fare adjustments to assist operators with rising operational costs. Following this, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) implemented increases across various sectors, including traditional and modernized jeepneys, buses, UV Express, taxis, and Transport Network Vehicle Services (TNVS).

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez stated the adjustments were necessary to ensure transport availability, citing that existing structures were inadequate due to an “ongoing fuel crisis.”

Regional implementations show varying specific rates. In Cebu, traditional jeepney minimum fares rose to ₱14 from ₱13, with succeeding kilometer rates increasing to ₱2, while modernized jeepney minimum fares increased from ₱15 to ₱17. In Davao, traditional jeepney minimum fares rose to ₱14 and taxi flag-down rates increased from ₱50 to ₱65.

The fare hikes have drawn criticism from the Davao Consumer Movement (DCM), which noted the increase adds financial pressure to consumers already facing high costs for food and electricity. Consumer advocate Ryan Amper stated the adjustment directly impacts the disposable income of ordinary workers, particularly minimum-wage earners.

Authorities have mandated that the statutory 20% discount for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities remains applicable across all PUVs.
