Piazza Leonardo Leo in San Vito dei Normanni was nominated for the thirteenth edition of ‘I Luoghi del Cuore’, a national census organized by the FAI (Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano) in collaboration with Intesa Sanpaolo. The nomination, which began as a spontaneous entry by an anonymous enthusiast, prompted a community mobilization campaign by the Pro Loco San Vito dei Normanni ‘Porta del Salento’. 

Following the launch of the local campaign, the square achieved significant early success by surpassing the 3,000-vote threshold within four days. This milestone qualifies the site to apply for FAI-supported enhancement projects in 2027, which would focus on urban furnishings, greenery, facade cleaning, and improving capacity for cultural events. As of early September 2026, the square held the 27th position in the national rankings.
