A photographic exhibition titled ‘Il sogno spezzato – L’orizzonte politico e familiare di Piersanti Mattarella’ has been touring to commemorate the life and legacy of the former President of the Sicilian Region, who was assassinated by the mafia in 1980. Following a run in Palermo, the exhibition opened at the Museo Diocesano in Catania, featuring over 200 photographs intended to portray Mattarella as both a political figure and a private individual. The collection, curated by Fondazione Sicilia, aims to educate younger generations on his 90th anniversary. The exhibition subsequently moved to L'Aquila, opening at the Abruzzo Regional Council. This iteration, organized by Banca del Fucino in collaboration with Fondazione Sicilia and Sicily Art & Culture, includes approximately 150 to 200 photographs, many from family archives. The display traces Mattarella’s life from the 1940s through his political career, showcasing historical images alongside figures such as Aldo Moro and Sandro Pertini, as well as personal family moments and texts by biographer Giovanni Grasso. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-08: L'Aquila hosts exhibition dedicated to Piersanti Mattarella A photographic exhibition dedicated to the life and political career of assassinated Sicilian President Piersanti Mattarella has opened in L'Aquila, featuring rare family archive images. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/laquila-hosts-exhibition-dedicated-to-piersanti-mattarella ### 2026-09-11: Piersanti Mattarella exhibition opens at Catania's Museo Diocesano A photographic exhibition titled ‘Il sogno spezzato’ documenting the life and political legacy of Piersanti Mattarella has opened at the Museo Diocesano in Catania, featuring over 200 images. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/piersanti-mattarella-exhibition-opens-at-catanias-museo-diocesano --- Cite as: Piersanti Mattarella commemorative exhibitions.
