Following a 4-0 victory against Alebrijes de Oaxaca on October 3, which moved the team to fifth place, the club's position in the standings has shifted. During that match, Daniel Lajud scored twice, including a penalty, while Gabriel López and Uziel García added further goals to secure the win. As the Apertura 2026 tournament progresses, the team has focused on improving away-game performance. Midfielder Brian Figueroa noted the necessity of securing road victories to climb toward first place, which the team remained within three to four points of during early October. Following preparations at the Universidad Veracruzana and Estadio Pirata Fuente, the squad traveled to Mazatlán for an away fixture against Dorados de Sinaloa at Estadio El Encanto. Under manager Mario García Covalles, the team has emphasized tactical discipline and clinical finishing to meet their classification goals as the regular season nears its conclusion. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: Liga MX: Matchday 14 updates for Piratas de Veracruz and Bravos de Juárez Liga MX Apertura 2026 continues with Piratas de Veracruz traveling to face Dorados de Sinaloa and Bravos de Juárez seeking crucial points against Necaxa. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/liga-mx-matchday-14-updates-for-piratas-de-veracruz-and-bravos-de-jurez ### 2026-10-21: Piratas de Veracruz prepares for away match against Dorados de Sinaloa Piratas de Veracruz is training for a crucial away game against Dorados de Sinaloa as they aim to secure qualification for the Liguilla. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/piratas-de-veracruz-prepares-for-away-match-against-dorados-de-sinaloa ### 2026-10-15: Numancia and Piratas de Veracruz face critical upcoming matches Numancia prepares for a high-stakes Segunda RFEF match against Talavera de la Reina, while Piratas de Veracruz seeks a crucial victory against Tepatitlán FC to secure a Mexican Liguilla spot. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/numancia-and-piratas-de-veracruz-face-critical-upcoming-matches ### 2026-10-08: Piratas de Veracruz prepares for away match against Coyotes de Tlaxcala Piratas de Veracruz seeks a crucial away victory against Coyotes de Tlaxcala to climb the Liga de Expansión MX standings and secure a favorable position for the playoffs. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/piratas-de-veracruz-prepares-for-away-match-against-coyotes-de-tlaxcala ### 2026-10-03: Piratas de Veracruz defeat Alebrijes de Oaxaca 4-0 Piratas de Veracruz defeated Alebrijes de Oaxaca 4-0 in Liga Expansión MX, led by a Daniel Lajud brace, moving the team into fifth place in the standings. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/piratas-de-veracruz-defeat-alebrijes-de-oaxaca-4-0 ### 2026-09-29: Piratas de Veracruz prepares for Alebrijes de Oaxaca matchup Piratas de Veracruz is preparing for their upcoming Liga de Expansión MX match against Alebrijes de Oaxaca following a recent loss, with players calling for renewed determination. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/piratas-de-veracruz-prepares-for-alebrijes-de-oaxaca-matchup ### 2026-09-26: Piratas de Veracruz begins preparations for match against Alebrijes de Oaxaca Piratas de Veracruz has started training at Pirata Fuente stadium to prepare for their upcoming Liga de Expansión MX match against Alebrijes de Oaxaca on October 3. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/piratas-de-veracruz-begins-preparations-for-match-against-alebrijes-de-oaxaca --- Cite as: Piratas de Veracruz fighting for Liguilla qualification.
