The Plaza de La Ranita Artisanal and Cultural Center in Uruapan, Michoacán, has been transformed into a central hub for tourism and regional traditions following a state investment of 19.8 million pesos. The renovation includes a monumental mural by artist Carlos Campos titled ‘Uruapan, herencia y raíces que viven,’ which illustrates local identity through depictions of artisans, traditional dances, and the Barranca del Cupatitzio National Park. The site features a Casa de las Artesanías (Casart) boutique to support the local economy by showcasing Michoacán-made textiles, woodwork, pottery, and musical instruments. To further promote local craftsmanship, Casart held an awards ceremony at the center, presenting 24 prizes and three special honors in categories such as embroidered cotton textiles and ‘maque incrustado’ (inlaid lacquerware). According to María Elena Huerta, Secretary of Urban Development and Mobility, the center’s development is intended to integrate public space recovery with mobility and tourism, specifically through its connection to the Uruapan cable car project. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-17: Uruapan renovates Plaza de La Ranita to promote Michoacán culture Uruapan's Plaza de La Ranita has been renovated with a 19.8 million peso investment, featuring a new monumental mural and hosting major awards for Michoacán's traditional artisans. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/uruapan-renovates-plaza-de-la-ranita-to-promote-michoacn-culture ### 2026-10-13: Plaza de La Ranita becomes a cultural and tourist hub in Uruapan The Plaza de La Ranita in Uruapan, Michoacán, has been revitalized with a 19.8 million peso investment to serve as a cultural and tourist hub featuring local crafts and monumental art. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/plaza-de-la-ranita-becomes-a-cultural-and-tourist-hub-in-uruapan --- Cite as: Plaza de La Ranita cultural development in Uruapan.
